Since 1968, when a group of art lovers got together to stage the first “Summerfair” on the streets of Mt. Adams, Summerfair Cincinnati, Inc. has been supporting and promoting artists and the arts in the Greater Cincinnati region. Summerfair Cincinnati programs provide award, scholarship and exhibit opportunities to a variety of emerging (high school and college), individual (working professional) artists and local/regional small and mid-sized arts organizations.
Summerfair Cincinnati does not receive funding from City, State or Federal governments. Its primary funding vehicle is the annual Summerfair fine arts and crafts festival. The festival generates funds via patron admissions, exhibitor booth rentals, sales of T-shirts, posters and other merchandise, as well as corporate sponsorships. A group of dedicated Summerfair member volunteers (also known as Green Shirts) along with one staff person, work throughout the year on a variety of projects, including competitions, fundraisers, building community awareness of its programs and to marketing its annual Fair.
As a nonprofit 501 (c) 3, we are constantly searching for causes that will in some way touch young artists and their passion for the arts. We feel this is an area so easily cut from others’ budgets or looked over when funding. However, we don’t want to leave out helping established artists and small arts organizations that also tend to fall through the funding cracks.
