Summerfair 2012 Poster Unveiling
On Sunday, February 19, 2012, Summerfair Cincinnati will officially unveil the 2012 Summerfair poster at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Rookwood Pavilion.
The event will kick off promptly at 1 p.m., with the public unveiling of the poster by Brent Beck, whose design won this year’s poster competition. Beck will be available until 3 p.m. to sign posters and answer questions.
The Summerfair poster design competition is in its 35th year, and known as one of Greater Cincinnati’s oldest and most respected community-wide art competitions. Previous winners of the competition include artists such as Linda Hils (1982), Liz Kathman Grubow (1983, 2001), and Jim Effler (1978). Beck has won the competition on three different occasions, (2000, 2002 and 2012) meaning he has impressed three different juries of judges over the years, a first in Summerfair history.
“It was great to find out that I had won, my family and I were so surprised and excited,” Brent Beck said. “Summerfair is such a wonderful organization so I’m looking forward to working with them again this year.”
According to Sharon Strubbe, executive director of Summerfair Cincinnati, Beck’s poster was a clear hit with the judges.;
“Beck’s design captivated the judges, with his playful use of color and concept” said Summerfair Cincinnati Executive Director, Sharon Strubbe. “He truly understands how to capture the essence of the fair in his art. We’re pleased to feature it as the centerpiece of Summerfair 2012.”
Posters signed by Beck will be available at the Joseph-Beth unveiling for a special price of $10. Joseph-Beth Booksellers will donate 20 percent of bookstore purchases made Sunday, Feb. 19 to Summerfair Cincinnati. This donation will benefit the non-profit’s year round awards and scholarship programs, which support local emerging and professional practicing artists and arts organizations. Individuals who are unable to attend can purchase posters at Summerfair 2012, which takes place June 1, 2, and 3 at historic Coney Island. Un-signed versions will sell for $10.
