Executive Director's Update:

Summerfair Cincinnati’s VOLUNTEERS OF THE MONTH

Summerfair Cincinnati (SFC) is chock full of enthusiastic and passionate member VOLUNTEERS! Every month, I'll be highlighting several SFC members who continue to go "above and beyond" for the good of the organization. This article will also be highlighted and archived on our website, www.summerfair.org. It’s a fun way to get to know your SFC colleagues – especially some of their personal interests!

What is a D.E.V.?

D:    ded’ i – cat’ ed adj. Devoted, faithful
E:    en-thu’ si – as’ tic adj. Intense or eager interest, zeal
V:    vol – un – teer n. one who chooses freely to do something

December features three Summerfair Members. They are Kelly Boschert and Bob Hinman . A link to prior Volunteers of the Month is shown at the bottom of the page.

Meet January 2009 D.E.V.: Kelly Boschert

Kelly has been volunteering officially with the Summerfair Cincinnati organization since 2005, but did help her father, Joe Boschert, with Youth Arts in 2004. And, as most of you know, she was Co-Fair Chair with her Dad for the 2008 Fair.

She enjoys doing for others and organization is her bailiwick, so volunteering for a variety of positions within Summerfair (both for Year Round activities and for the Fair) is a good fit! This year, Kelly is shopping around by helping the Fund-raising committee and chairing Special Events and is looking at a variety of areas that she might be interested in working for the upcoming Fair.

One of her favorite memories as a green shirt (besides being Co Fair Chair in 2008) was watching her Dad roll paint on everyone's hands in Youth Arts at the 2007 Fair. Kelly’s favorite poster is the Frog, followed closely by the 2008 Iris poster.

Kelly lives in Anderson Township and is single. She is employed by Sibcy Cline Realtors, as their Home Services Vendor Coordinator. Hobbies include reading, spending time with family and friends, playing cards/games, and gardening. While she says she doesn't "make" crafts, she does make ideas. Other favorites include vacationing on St. George Island, FL, drinking Diet Coke and eating Skyline Chili. Kelly considers herself a bibliophile and is reading Teeth of the Tiger by Tom Clancy, Jack and Jill by James Patterson and Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer. She’s a big UC Bearcat fan and enjoys rooting on the Cincinnati Reds.

Meet January 2009 D.E.V.: Bob Hinman

Our beloved Ex-El Presidente'’ Bob Hinman has been with the Summerfair Cincinnati organization, handling a variety of roles, for 20 years. He joined initially when he and his wife, Koben, were dating…he enjoyed going to membership meetings at the Old Spaghetti Factory. Bob always enjoys the Green Shirt volunteers and the scenery at the Fair (maybe he gets ideas for his theatrical sets while working the Fair?!)

Currently, Bob sits on the restructured Executive Board as the one nominated Trustee. His Fair role is (his words, not mine) "Rental Boy" and he claims that our quiet Roger Harding was going to "beat him up" if he didn’t do it! Hmmm…His favorite memory as a Green Shirt was the 2006 Fair when two of his daughters and his sister from Kansas City worked the Fair with him. Bob's favorite poster is the Popcycle.

Having worked for Hormel Foods for 35 years, Bob recently retired July 11 and started a new career July 14 at Queensgate Foodservice as a Business Development Manager. He loves sports, especially high school and college, producing theater plays, building sets and working on Habitat for Humanity houses. He grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and received his BS in Business in '71 from Nebraska. Bob calls the play by play for Kings High School (I know, cuz we are always kidding each other when Kings plays Turpin – he knows all the stats and is great fun to argue with about both High School and college sports!)

Bob lives in Landen in Warren County and is married to Koben. He has three beautiful daughters, two son-in-laws (and one "soon to be"), two wonderful granddaughters and one fantastic grandson. He's obviously very much a family man. Hobbies (besides public address high school sports announcer) include broadcasting football games on WKNG radio on the internet, cooking, set building, and remodeling. When asked if he makes art / crafts, he responded "ARE U KIDDING?" His favorite vacation spot is Alaska (Wasilla perhaps??!!) and he enjoys a cold diet soda with his pork tenderloin or salmon. No time for reading, he does enjoy watching U of Nebraska Cornhusker football.
