Executive Director's Update:

Summerfair Cincinnati’s VOLUNTEERS OF THE MONTH

Summerfair Cincinnati (SFC) is chock full of enthusiastic and passionate member VOLUNTEERS! Every month, I'll be highlighting several SFC members who continue to go "above and beyond" for the good of the organization. This article will also be highlighted and archived on our website, www.summerfair.org. It’s a fun way to get to know your SFC colleagues – especially some of their personal interests!

What is a D.E.V.?

D:    ded’ i – cat’ ed adj. Devoted, faithful
E:    en-thu’ si – as’ tic adj. Intense or eager interest, zeal
V:    vol – un – teer n. one who chooses freely to do something

November features three Summerfair Members. The 2009 Co-Fair Chairs, Bill Berry & Terri Wilson and Dustin Minton. A link to prior Volunteers of the Month is shown at the bottom of the page.

Meet November 2008 D.E.V.: Bill Berry

Bill Berry is one-half of the dynamic duo 2009 Co-Fair Chairs. He’s been with SFC for almost two years…and wow – he's already stepped up in the Fair Chair leadership role! Bill was introduced to the organization by his girlfriend, Terri Wilson. They both love the arts. Bill enjoys the camaraderie of the folks in the organization – it makes supporting the arts FUN! Most of Bill’s previous experience with the Fair has been on the Performing Arts stages, making great use of his performing arts talents (I can attest to that talent – I thoroughly enjoyed his performance last year with the Mariemont Players; he had all us gals in the audiences swooning when he sang (plus, he looks awesome in a tuxedo!)

Bill's most memorable moment at the 2008 Fair was when an artist took ill due to the heat and he watched as everyone came together to make sure the artist got the care he needed –relief from the heat and help at the end of the day to pack up and load in his artwork. “It is always rewarding to see that kind of caring!”

Bill lives in Union Township, near Eastgate. He works as a New Business Specialist in the Insurance Operations department at Western & Southern Life Insurance Co. His hobbies include theatre, music, theatre, ghost hunting, theatre, sports (an avid fan), and…did he mention theatre?! While he says he doesn't create art (unless you consider finger painting), he does sing and act…hey, that's art, isn't it? His favorite vacation spot would be San Francisco followed by Gatlinburg/Smoky Mountains. Bill enjoys a good margarita and a steak. Currently, he’s reading Make Your Own Damn Movie by Lloyd Kaufman and is a big fan of the Cleveland Indians ("though being a 'homer' from Northeast Ohio, he is a fan of the Browns and Cars as well").

Meet November 2008 D.E.V.: Terri Wilson

Terri Wilson, the second half of the dynamic duo 2009 Co-Fair Chairs has been a Summerfair member for over 10 years. She joined the organization because her father used to bring her to Summerfair as she was growing up (she has a vivid memory of a man with a snake walking around the grounds – funny now since we don’t even allow dogs!) Later, she was re-introduced and became a part of the Fair through Robert Waddle and the performing arts stages. Terri says that her favorite thing about being a member is, “the event is cool and the people are great – the people are the main thing. There are a lot of really cool people who volunteer with SFC and the patrons who come to the fair are neat to meet, too!” She usually works on the Performing Arts fair committee and has enjoyed watching it evolve over the years.

Terri’s favorite memories from the fair are sentimental. At the 2002 fair, she received some shockingly bad news while on the grounds. The support, hugs and caring that she received from other Summerfair members took care of her that morning till her mom, who was performing, arrived on the grounds.

Terri lives in Union Township, near Eastgate. She counts her two cats as her "kids". Her day job is at F&W Media, Inc. Her hobbies include theatre, ghost hunting, movies – "Star Wars and pirates and rings, oh my!" She makes a little jewelry / beading and wants to do watercolors. When she vacations, she enjoys Disney, Gatlinburg and the gulf side of Florida / Alabama. Her favorite drink is either lite beer or Coke and says that tomatoes and chocolate are always staples. During downtime, she catches upon magazines, and has Eragon in her bag to start reading soon. Always positive, Terri is STILL a Bengal's fan…"we'll get those Brownies next time!"

Meet November 2008 D.E.V.: Dustin Minton

Board Trustee VP Finance, Dustin Minton is relatively new to the Summerfair Cincinnati organization, having joined us about two years ago. Dustin joined SFC because he's always appreciated what artists are able to express through their artwork. He was also looking for a way to get involved in the community where his interest lies. The best part about being a member/volunteer? "Being part of a great Cincinnati tradition that enables artists to continue their passion."

Dustin worked as a Green Shirt at both entrances to the Fair in 2008. Now, as VP Finance on the Executive Board, he has been able to integrate his professional abilities with a personal interest to help the organization continue to grow and achieve its long range goals.

His favorite poster is the most recent, 2008. He thinks it is visually appealing while also expressing the many aspects of Summerfair.

Dustin lives in Landen (south of Kings Island) and is single. He's currently a Director at SS&G Financial Services and leads the assurance practice for its Cincinnati office.

Hobbies include travel overseas and to national parks, running, working out and spending time with family. Dustin really enjoys photography and architecture; his favorite vacation spot is San Diego.

He enjoys diet Coke and Donato’s Pepperoni pizza!

Currently, he enjoys reading (when he has time) Men’s Health magazine and is a big fan of Ohio State University.

Meet October 2008 D.E.V.: Jill Folzenlogen & Roger Henthorn
