Summerfair Cincinnati’s VOLUNTEERS OF THE MONTH
Summerfair Cincinnati (SFC) is chock full of enthusiastic and passionate member VOLUNTEERS! Starting this month, I'll be highlighting several SFC members who continue to go "above and beyond" for the good of the organization. This article will also be highlighted and archived on our website, www.summerfair.org. It’s a fun way to get to know your SFC colleagues – especially some of their personal interests!

D: ded’ i – cat’ ed adj. Devoted, faithful

Meet
October 2008
D.E.V.: Roger Henthorn |
With
seven years
under her belt as a Summerfair Cincinnati member volunteer, Jill is not
“new” to
the organization; however, she is new to the organization’s
restructured Board, stepping up as our Operations Committee Membership
Meeting
head. Developing each meeting’s agenda and coordinating the
monthly membership newsletter, Jill’s taken on this
leadership role with aplomb!
Jill, who says that she’s very shy, joined Summerfair
Cincinnati because when she was at the Fair, she thought it would be a
great way to be involved and help people as well as to “put
herself out there and make
friends”. She enjoys working with the artists and our
patrons. At the Fair, she’s worked on the Artists –
in –
Action area and with outside volunteers. She especially has fond
memories of the most recent 2008 Fair, at which she felt more involved
and made some new friends!
Jill’s favorite Summerfair Posters are 2001 because it is so
“whimsical” and 2004 because it is
“simply beautiful”.
A “west sider”, Jill lives in Delhi Township, is
married (14 years) and has three little girls. Currently the CEO of the
Folzenlogen family, she worked for more than 20 years for what was then
Provident Bank. Her hobbies include reading, photography and writing in
her journal. She enjoys a variety of crafts. Jill also loves to
vacation in Memphis, Tenn., and Siesta Key, Fla. Her favorite food and
drink are pork chops and Pepsi.
Currently, Jill is reading a book on children’s nutrition and
also cheers for the University of Tennessee Volunteers football team! |

SFC
Member Volunteer since 2000, Roger Henthorn (or RH2
as many of us know him) joined the organization with a small group of
fellow volunteers from Tall Stacks. He heard that SFC was looking for
new members, and though he had no idea what it was all about, he took
the plunge and the rest is history! Roger sits on the Operations
Committee as a Trustee in charge of our IT; he’s our web
master/guru and continues to do a wonderful job keeping the website
updated, often making revisions within a matter of minutes.
(He’ll tell you
I’m a real “task master” but really, he
just always goes above
and beyond, even when I tell him that the revision I’ve sent
him is NOT a rush!). Currently, Roger’s working on getting
the new SFC logo on all the webpages, plus he’s developing a
new splash page, which will be very exciting!
Roger’s favorite thing about being a SFC volunteer is working
with all the other members on the Fair as well as handling our website.
You’ll always find Roger in the Youth
Arts area during the Fair. “Are there other areas? The first
shift
I did at the Fair was working on the T-Shirt press. I signed up for it
without knowing what was involved. I liked it and Dennis Patterson
cleared all my other shifts so I could continue working on the presses.
Now, eight years later, I’m still on the
presses. I did take some time in 2005 to be co-Fair Chair with Jan
Brockman. Actually, I only missed one shift at the presses.”
How’s THAT for being a D.E.V.? Roger has fond memories from
the Fairs he’s worked, including seeing the kids getting so
excited after seeing their drawings on t-shirts that they can wear, to
putting up a booth in the pouring rain, or giving Dave Hasson a steel
hammer to bang in the aluminum flag holders (Roger’s
“sure” that’s the reason Dave and Jodi
moved to Chicago!)
Strangely enough, Roger’s favorite Summerfair poster is not
the 2005 (his Fair), but the 2001.
Another “west sider”, Roger calls Delhi Township
home. He and his wife, Gail, have been married 30 years and have one
daughter, Jennifer Hacker. Roger is self-employed, working for Tim
Carter of askthebuilder.com. He maintains his various websites and the
online store. Hobbies include year-round volleyball, sailboat racing
and providing the music for the Country Step Cloggers. His favorite
vacation spot is “someplace near a lake or ocean, where
hopefully, there’s a sailboat
nearby”. His favorite food and drink are Price Hill Chili and
Diet Dr. Pepper. He’s currently reading Racing Rules of
Sailing
2009– 012 and although he enjoys rooting for the home teams,
he says that
it’s “getting hard recently”! |
